Tax Manager The Tax Manager role is responsible for overseeing the preparation and review of the consolidated tax provision and related tax reporting processes, ensuring compliance with SOX and internal controls. This role also involves managing quarterly and annual REIT testing, tax modeling, planning, and implementing tax strategies. The position reports to the Tax Director.
Key Responsibilities: - Prepare the income tax provision for quarterly tax reporting, including SOX compliance, internal controls, and any necessary schedules (e.g., blended state tax rates) along with supporting documentation.
- Conduct and oversee quarterly and annual REIT tests.
- Collaborate with the tax team to project cash tax requirements, assess the impact of both anticipated and current company initiatives, and conduct due diligence and impact assessments for mergers, acquisitions, and other corporate restructuring activities at federal, state, and local levels.
- Monitor changes in tax laws (federal, foreign, state, and local), accounting methods, and legislative or judicial updates, and communicate their potential impact on the organization and industry.
- Work with internal accounting, business, and legal teams to handle ad-hoc requests.
Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
- 4-7 years of experience in income tax within public accounting or a large public company, with a mix of experience preferred.
- Proficient in income tax accounting (ASC 740) with a solid understanding of internal controls.
- Experience with complex consolidated tax provisions and corporate federal and state tax compliance. REIT experience is a plus but not required. Experience with partnership tax is also beneficial.
